Occasionally rock climbing and ice climbing
on one occasion, I've started to climb in more vertical environments.
I've climbed indoors for many years but as time progresses I'm trying
the outdoor environment. This is new territory for me and if I continue
to enjoy it and take it further, the list below will fatten out. |

Jenny's Lum, Slackdhu: Ice 2010 December 24 |
An overnight trip to climb the vertical icefall of Jenny's Lum on Slackdhu. Snow down to sea level, and clear skies with the moon. The ice was in bad condition and we top-roped to stay safe. Very tough climbing, but a fun and tiring night. The drive home took two hours thanks to Dave's knackered car.
|
Craigmore 2010 November 10 |
A quick trip to Craigmore. When I was in Glen Coe, Dave shunted up Tom and Jerry Wall alone, so we came back together so I could give it a shot. Strange to work a shunt at first but I got used to it then felt quite safe! And the rock was finger-numbingly cold. We both Climbed T+J twice, always on shunt.
|
Auchinstarry 2010 October 31 |
Seconded Scream, top roped E2 slab, seconded Anarchist and finished the day with top roping Nijinski. Dave went first and got it 1st try. I went up and with a lot of effort and sweat climbed out the top (nearly onsight) as the sun was going down. Very proud of this route, but would not have the balls to lead!
|
Craigmore 2010 October 28 |
With Dave back in the UK, we headed to Craigmore with a full trad rack. Tried Layback Crack top rope but it was 'manky', running with water and completely slippery. Aided a bit to get up but it was all a bit rubbish! Left when the rain came on with the front on time c. 2pm.
|
Craigmore 2010 September 26 |
Back at Craigmore to work Layback Crack E1 on the main face right of the 24th's bouldering problem. Couldn't abseil down, and tough to climb up, so I didn't get very far...
|
Dumgoyne crag 2010 September 25 |
Exploring the potential of a wee crag in the Campsies. Hoped for some bouldering possibilities, but sadly not. Link takes you to hillwalking page for Dumgoyne, which I climbed afterwards.
|
Craigmore 2010 September 24 |
Went to Craigmore alone to work on a bouldering route Dave had done. it is to the left of Terror. Took nearly two hours to solve, but I finally cracked it.
|
Craigmore 2010 September 5 |
Drove to Craigmore after Auchinstarry and did some more climbing there. No pictures though!
|
Auchinstarry 2010 September 5 |
With Dave. Top-roped the top two-thirds of High Dive (E3) on the Mascarade Buttress, the blankest piece of rock at Auchinstarry. Also climbed on the big wall at the back - got the topo.
|
Craigmore 2010 August 29 |
With Dave. Slightly different anchor from the 7th, and got onto some easier walls with quite fun and difficult climbing. I'll work out what we did when I get the guide.
|
Craigmore 2010 August 22 |
Doing some walls with Dave near the end of the crag. Have the pictures but not sure of climb names.
|
Dunglass 2010 August 17 |
With Steve, on the bolted wall. Ran out of light before we got up anything. Tough climbing, too.
|
Craigmore 2010 August 7 |
With Dave. Had no guidebook so unsure of the name of the climbs we were trying. Had a bottom-rope from the Scots Pine at the top of the crag.
|
Craigmore 2010 June 28 |
Feeling more comfortable with this route now, I lead it, using minimal protection, then Ian came up after on bottom rope. I soloed it five times in a row, just as the rain came on.
|
Craigmore 2010 June 16 |
Ian hadn't been up Kit Kat yet, so we set up the top-rope and both scooted up it about three times each.
|
Craigmore 2010 June 14 |
First time at Craigmore - great rock. Lead Kit Kat which took a lot of mental psyching to do. Crap protection at this crag, so we didn't do any other routes, though we tried.
|
Auchinstarry 2010 April 2 |
Not so much climbing but we did Access route then went to the Bouldering wall where I found a really neat problem - very fulfilling getting to the top so I did it several times more.
|
Neilston Quarry 2010 March 4 |
Climbing with Ian among a foot of snowfall! A beautiful day though. Climbed my first lead too.
|
Neilston Quarry 2010 February 21 |
Afternoon rock climbing with Ian. Clear but cold day, we climbed until darkness. Missing Mick like hell...
|
Auchinstarry 2010 February 12 |
Beautiful morning rock climbing with Ian. First time climbing on real rock with ropes. An amazing experience! A very warm morning for February, with blue skies and the sun out.
|
The Whangie
(with Auchineden Hill) 2009 November 15 |
